  • It was raining heavily in the town, creating a truly pleasant atmosphere. A soothing, refreshing breeze had mixed into every corner. Although it was around 5 PM, it felt like night because of how dark and quiet the town had become. In this weather, everyone was tucked away in their bedrooms, wrapped in blankets, and you couldn’t hear any noise anywhere in the house. 😊

They were sitting in the car, talking—Hafsat and a striking woman Hafsat didn’t recognize. The woman wore an expensive ash-colored leather outfit. From the moment Hafsat saw her, she knew the woman was confident and comfortable. The woman was sitting in the driver’s seat, while Hafsat sat beside her, and they were conversing.

Hafsat remained quiet, listening. The woman said, “I’m lucky I got your address and found you easily. I hope you can help me achieve my goal.”

Hafsat replied, “I’m listening. What do you want me to do?”

The woman smiled before saying, “Before I tell you what I want, please give me your account number.”

Hafsat stared at her in surprise at the request, but she didn’t hesitate. She read out her account number, while the woman quickly entered it into her phone.

No sooner had Hafsat finished than an alert came through her phone—ka-ching!

Quickly, Hafsat reached for her small purse on her lap and pulled out her phone, her hands shaking. Her jaw dropped when she saw the alert: 6 million naira. It felt like a dream.

In shock, she looked at the woman and said, “This? How is this possible?”

The woman laughed before explaining, “Marshal Omar brought in some twins to this house. Their names are Hosana and Jahad.”

Hafsat’s eyes widened at the names mentioned.

The woman continued, “It’s not a difficult task. I just want them out of this house… away from Marshal Omar.”

Hafsat was stunned, particularly at how the woman could know that Marshal Omar had brought the children into the house.

She asked, “How do you know that?”

“They are useless,” the woman replied briefly.

Hafsat stayed silent, thinking to herself, Who is this woman? How does she know the names of the twins and of Omar?

The woman added, “There’s no need for questions. Just do as I say. If my plan works, I promise to triple whatever I give you.”

Hafsat replied, “Alright, I’ll go inside and you’ll see.”

The woman smiled and said, “We’ll meet again.”

Hafsat got out of the car. The woman drove off, her face showing a triumphant smile. Hafsat rushed into the house, wet from the rain.

Meanwhile, the woman returned to her house, entering the large living room and going straight to her bedroom. She removed her wet clothes, changed into a shirt and pants, tied her hair back, and stood before the mirror, thinking about the visit she had made to Hafsat.

At that moment, Aunty Babba entered, asking, “Hafsat, who was that woman who just visited you?”

Hafsat turned to her and replied, “I don’t know her. She came straight to my address with her request.”

“What kind of request?” Aunty Babba asked, curious.

Hafsat explained, “She told me she wants me to get rid of Omar’s twins—meaning she wants them completely out of the house and away from him.”

Aunty Babba sighed and said, “And who is she to do this? She wants Omar, that’s why she followed you?”

Hafsat shook her head. “I don’t think so. I believe she knows the children, and that’s why she wants them removed.”

“So you agreed to her request?”

Hafsat smiled and said, “Yes, Mommy, I agreed. She gave me six million naira here, and she said if I complete the task well, she’ll triple it.”

Aunty Babba frowned. “But you fool! You agreed to her request just because she arrived? That woman wants Omar; that’s why she wants the kids gone.”

“No matter what, Mommy, I won’t let that money slip away from me. I’m part of their plan. Daddy wouldn’t give me money properly, and you didn’t provide for me either. Now I have this opportunity—why should I let it pass?” Hafsat said firmly.

Aunty Babba stepped closer, asking, “Hafsat, are you in your right mind? Are you serious?”

Hafsat replied, “Am I wrong? I’m doing this for us! If I succeed in my goal, Hayaam will get Rafayet, Abra will get Marshal Omar, and we’ll be happy. So I’m commanding you: gather the money you gave her and return it to her immediately!”

Hafsat laughed and clapped her hands, saying, “Mommy, this is me! I too want money, just like you. I won’t let it slip away! Wealth may be in other people’s houses, but here, it’s mine. I won’t return her money!”

Aunty Babba was shocked, realizing Hafsat was not thinking clearly. She asked again, bewildered, “Hafsat, are you in your right mind?”

Hafsat smiled wickedly. “Absolutely! I’m Hafsat, daughter of General Ishaq, child of the military. Just watch me!”

Aunty Babba shook her head, knowing there would be trouble, because Hafsat would never back down from what she decided. She sighed and left the room.

All of this had been overheard by Hosana, lying quietly in a corner of the room. Hearing Aunty Babba leave, she ran to the storage room where they kept things.

“Where are you going, Hosana? Don’t you hear them talking? Haven’t they seen you? Today they let us be, didn’t harm us at all,” said Jahad, standing and watching Hosana.

Hosana, her voice trembling, said, “Jahad, I heard what Hafsat and her mother said.”

“What did they say?” Jahad asked, moving closer to listen.

Hosana explained everything from the beginning.

Jahad nodded and said, “So, her ambition matches her personality—that’s why she despises us. She thinks Omar might favor one of us. She said she doesn’t like us because we interfered with her plans. Now I understand her point. But who is the woman Hafsat met today—the one who wants the children removed?”
